Harmony
In sixth grade choir we will develop our harmony singing skills. Harmony happens whenever two different notes (or more) are sung at the same time. We will sing rounds and partner songs to practice our independent harmony singing skills. Later on, we will sing more and more songs with multiple voice parts.
Rounds
A round is a type of canon where all voices sing exactly the same melody. Each part sings the melody at different times, creating an overlapping echo of the melody. Harmony is created between these overlapping echoes.
"Mud" by Joanne Hammil is a 3 part round (imperfect round)
video (recording) | sheet music
"Dona Nobis Pacem" by Mozart is a 3 part round (perfect round)
video (middle schoolers) | video (high schoolers) | sheet music (1 line) | sheet music (3 lines)
If you are practicing, start by singing the 1 line version. Sing the 3 line version when you are more familiar.
Partner Songs
A partner song is a song with multiple melodies that are sung at the same time, creating harmony.
"Shake the Papaya Down" is a calypso 3 part partner song
video | sheet music
"Bottles of Pop / Trash Can / Fish and Chips" is a 3 part partner song
sheet music
